I recently came across this great article by Victoria Erickson on Rebelle Society, and I had to pass it along! In 6 Sweet Survival Tips for Super Sensitive Souls, Erickson discusses the gifts and challenges of being a Highly Sensitive Person, and puts forth specific ways for HSPs to survive and thrive. As a HSP myself, I have found that each of these Sweet suggestions has been integral in my own quest to find balance, renewal, clarity and connection. I also offer HSP Counseling, or, counseling for Highly Sensitive People in my private psychotherapy practice. Says Erickson:

“You soak up others’ moods and desires like a sponge. You absorb sensation the way a paintbrush grasps each color it touches on a palette. The ethereal beauty of a dandelion, the shift of a season, the climax of a song, or the scent of a certain fragrance can sometimes move you to tears… And sometimes your sensitivity makes life extraordinarily painful, and you want to shut down and hide your raw self from the loud chaos that accompanies this earth’s continual rotation.”

An now, the Sweet Survival Tips:

  1. create

  2. enjoy the company of animals

  3. seek out water

  4. be aware of what is yours and what is not

  5. surround yourself with people that understand your nature and nurture that connection

  6. retreat, replenish, and rejuvenate
